Look, Books!

It's late at night; early morning if you want to be technical. Waiting for a light bulb moment as I rummage through some of my favorite cook books. One can never have enough of them. Brother has the Momofuku book which I have to get for myself, as well as Ruhlman's Ratio. Love the Matt Groening rendition of Ferran Adria on the cover of Food for Thought, Thought for Food. It's more of an artsy perspective on Adria's work with El Bulli and chronicles most of the dishes he has created.

Today is New Year's Eve and I'm trying to figure out what to cook as relatives are coming over for dinner! Books have always been a great source of inspiration for me to get the creative juices flowing. So I've been browsing through these books to get some ideas on what I can make. I promised myself that I'd read through the books on the left in a more in depth manner soon. I love the Alinea book because every single dish has a picture and even if I probably won't be able to do most of the recipes, the book is such a visual feast!

So yeah, still not sure of what I'm cooking. Went to the grocery awhile ago and got some vegetables and proteins. Mom is making her roast beef. That's something I'm not even going to try and mess with! I think mother's always have that secret recipe we all love and don't try to alter at all. I guess I'll do a salad, a chicken dish, and a fish dish. Maybe a pasta. Will probably change my mind 20 times by the time i cook. Not really sure! Which is kind of exciting. haha Not going to try and do something fancy. It's always good to have simple great tasting food with family! Will let you know what I end up doing.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

HOPE EVERYONE EATS WELL IN 2010!

Guilty

Last week I had to make a poem about my body as homework for one of my classes. Instead of literally making it about body parts, I decided to make it about food/eating which is more of a function. Here it is!

My mouth salivates
Each time you're around
Can't seem to concentrate
Now you've been found

Gut says GO
Fingers resist
Head says NO
Tummy insists

I know it's a crime
Oh screw it... GO BIG TIME!

Not a proud moment but, as you can see, I'm obviously not a food snob!
McGuilty!

*In other news..Top Chef spoiler alert.

I Got A Filling...

As if the slow trickle of food down everyone's doorstep wasn't enough, a cool breeze has also been enchanting Manila the past few days. The Holiday spirit is contagious and everyone will be using it as an excuse to prescribe themselves of overeating.

Last Sunday, I had the urge to make some ravioli. Took out the pasta machine which, I must admit, goes unnoticed every few months.

Filled them with ricotta+portobello mushrooms+spinach+onion+garlic. Lightly coated them in some sage butter and added saffron bubbles on top. (props to soy lecithin!)

(I should have taken a picture of what it looks like inside. Realized this after it was all eaten. My bad!)

Hope the season inspires me to come up with new dish ideas!
What will you be eating this Christmas?
